The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme [HSMP] has been in place since early 2002. It was designed to allow extremely highly skilled individuals a route to enter or remain in the UK to work or engage in business without the need to rely on a UK employer to make a work permit application [which would require sponsorship and a prospective job offer from a UK employer - click here for more info on this] International Work Permits will be able to advise all applicants on HSMP. Please note: applicants who are applying for extension or initial HSMP in the UK will need to apply for the new General Highly Skilled Migrant [GHSM] sub-category. For the rules for the new General Highly Skilled Migrant sub-category [post 29th Feb] please click here . Under the new scoring structure, individuals must qualify with a minimum of 75 points, as well as showing that they meet a number of other basic criteria . Points are awarded for qualifications, age (with those below 28 scoring the most points), earnings, and experience studying or working in the UK. In addition, individuals must be proficient in English (IELTS level 6 + or a Bachelors degree taught and instructed in English). Please feel free to take our FREE initial HSMP points calculator by clicking here - this is a no obligation service in which you will be assessed by an HSMP specialist. Alternatively, please feel free to contact our office to speak to a qualified UK Work Permit specialist [+44(0)207 866 8170].
